The three levers of image size

Every oversized image is oversized for one of three reasons, and each has its own fix. Too many pixels → resize the dimensions (the biggest win: halving width and height cuts ~75% of the data). Too little compression → re-encode at quality 75–85, which halves most camera JPGs invisibly. Wrong format → photos stored as PNG or BMP shrink 5–10× just by becoming JPG or WebP.

Does my image get uploaded?
No. All compression happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your files never leave your device and are never sent to a server.
Does compression reduce quality?
Lossy formats (JPG, WebP, AVIF) trade a little quality for much smaller files, and the quality slider lets you find the right balance. PNG is lossless, so it stays pixel-perfect.
Which formats are supported?
You can compress JPG, PNG and WebP. You can also convert a PNG photo to WebP during compression for much smaller files.
Can I compress to a specific file size?
Yes. Switch to “Target size” mode and PixelVault searches for the highest quality that fits under your chosen KB limit.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
