Why JPGs can shrink so much

Cameras and phones save JPGs at very conservative quality settings, spending megabytes on detail no screen will ever show. Re-encoding at quality 75–85 usually cuts the file in half — often far more — with no difference you can spot at normal viewing size. The before/after slider here lets you verify that with your own eyes instead of trusting a percentage.

Quality slider or exact target

Use the quality slider when you want the best-looking file around a rough size, or switch to target-size mode when a form says “max 500 KB” — it automatically searches for the highest quality that fits under your limit. Both modes work on a whole batch at once.

Compression without the upload

Every byte of the work happens in your browser, which is worth pausing on: a photo you compress before posting is often exactly the photo you did not want on a stranger’s server. There are no size limits, no watermarks and no queue — just the encoder your own machine already has.
