Why compress a format that is already compressed?
HEIC is efficient, but modern iPhones shoot 12–48 megapixel photos, so the files still land at 2–5 MB each — too big for portals with upload caps and slow to send in bulk. Compressing converts the HEIC into a JPG at your chosen size or quality, solving the size problem and the compatibility problem in one pass.
One step instead of two
The usual workaround is converting HEIC to JPG first, then compressing the JPG somewhere else — re-encoding twice and losing quality both times. Here the HEIC is decoded once and encoded straight to the final compressed JPG, so quality is spent exactly once, where you decide.

- No. All compression happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your files never leave your device and are never sent to a server.
- Does compression reduce quality?
- Lossy formats (JPG, WebP, AVIF) trade a little quality for much smaller files, and the quality slider lets you find the right balance. PNG is lossless, so it stays pixel-perfect.
- Which formats are supported?
- You can compress JPG, PNG and WebP. You can also convert a PNG photo to WebP during compression for much smaller files.
- Can I compress to a specific file size?
- Yes. Switch to “Target size” mode and PixelVault searches for the highest quality that fits under your chosen KB limit.
- Can I compress multiple images at once?
- Yes. Drop in as many images as you like and download them individually or together as a single ZIP file.
